Halima Lat
Outreach Officer, Muslim Students Association
“Every year the Y provides a space to host Islam Awareness Week. The biggest event is the interfaith dinner we hold with Interfaith in Action. We have people of different religions come together, answer questions, and talk about their faith on a panel. This is important for us because it helps address misconceptions and stigmas around each religion and build community with different faith traditions. When I think of the Y, I think of it as a diverse space that welcomes anyone. This year, a group of friends in MSA sponsored iftar every week at the Y. Members of the MSA are familiar with the space here and comfortable using the space for prayer. I see the Y as a place to bridge the gap between Muslims and non-Muslims.”
