Imam Ousmane Sawadogo
Central Illinois Mosque & Islamic Center
“In our tradition, we learn that God created us and made us nations and tribes so we can know one another. What the Y is doing with the community is exactly that, we can know one another here. In programs at the Y, I have seen bridge building in more than just words. This place has resources for our immigrant community. People are close to the Y because it is a place to get to know others. The Y’s interfaith groups have events at the Mosque and we are invited to interfaith events at the Y. The community events here support the Muslim community ensuring comfort in terms of dietary restrictions. At the Y we do not struggle to find a space to pray.”
