Jonathan Alday
Immigration Legal Assistant, New American Welcome Center
“There are so many different programs at the Y and ways to get involved and impact communities, like I did as a student. I went from greeting people at the Y’s front desk to providing the services that the NAWC offers. Being a part of the NAWC has bridged being a student to being a community member. I am able to create a sense of home with clients; they remind me of my own family. My identity as a Latino, first-generation son of immigrants has made this work personal and motivating. The staff at the Y are supportive and have been engaged in my development since I was a freshman student assistant. I am glad that I signed up to work at the Y – that first step changed my life.”
This project was made possible by a grant funded by Team Up, a national collaboration between Catholic Charities USA, Habitat for Humanity International, YMCA of the USA, and Interfaith America.
