Cassie Carroll
Trustee
Cassie Carroll was introduced to the University YMCA through Students for Environmental Concerns (SECS), but soon became involved as a student Board member, participated in Alternative Spring Break trips, and served on the Development Committee. After graduation, she remained in the Champaign-Urbana community, starting the Illinois Green Business Association, a nonprofit dedicated to educating businesses about sustainable practices and reducing environmental impact in Illinois' economic sector. While in the community, she has led the Y's Sustainability Committee, served in many roles on the Executive Committee and as Board Chair and was the co-lead for a strategic visioning process and hiring our most recent executive director. Cassie currently works at the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) at UIUC as the Marketing and Outreach Program Director. As she directs SEDAC’s outreach, marketing, and client recruitment efforts, Cassie helps customers move towards a more energy efficient future. She also manages multiple projects and has continued to grow sustainable business in Illinois through the Illinois Green Business Program. She is also the Director of the Green Business Engagement National Network (GBENN), helping green and sustainable business programs connect and share best practices that help reduce business environmental impacts nationally. She is a Champaign West Rotarian, where she enjoys helping local youth connect to meaningful service opportunities in the C-U community. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, hiking, long walks with her dog Roscoe, yoga, and visiting Y Thai for a large plate of pad thai.
