Scott Peters

Scott Peters is a professor in the Department of Global Development at Cornell University, and the co-editor of a Cornell University Press book series titled "Publicly Engaged Scholars: Identities, Purposes, and Practices." He has spent the past twenty years as a leader in the civic engagement movement in American higher education, including serving from 2012-2017 as faculty co-director of Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life (IA). He is the author and editor of many books, including Democracy and Higher Education: Traditions and Stories of Civic Engagement (2010), and, most recently (with Dan O’Connell), In the Struggle: Scholars and the Fight against Industrial Agribusiness in California (2021). He is currently writing a book for Cornell University Press about the history of the land-grant mission, titled “Land-Grant Missions: Heroic, Tragic, Prophetic."
