Tom Seals

Tom Seals is a retired psychologist/Counseling Center Director at the University of Illinois. He retired in 2004 after 15 years as Counseling Center Director. He is a 1964 graduate from Georgia Tech in Industrial Management, a 1968 graduate from Emory University with a Masters of Divinity, and a 1984 graduate from the University of Illinois with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Before working at the Counseling Center, he worked for a living/learning program at Allen Hall, as the Wesley Foundation Director at EIU, and a brief stint in the insurance business right after undergrad. He is married to Ruth with three adult children.
Tom has been involved with the Y since a graduate student at the U of I, beginning in about 1977 and has served in a variety of capacities, most recently as a Trustee and the Co-Chair of the Executive Director Search Committee in 2020. Previously, he was the Chair of the Board of Governors, the Chair of the Capital Funds Campaign in 2005, and served on the Board of Governors two different times. He has found the Y to be an organization with a long and storied history, a strong commitment to social and environmental justice, and a congenial mix of students, staff, alums, and other committed volunteers.
